Default fish (crappie) scales & cod

read in this months mid south hunting and fishing.

    (1) of a old timers that use to scale the first crappie he caught. took scales and slime mix a little water let sat a while and then throw some in the water. article said that is how he use to call big slabs up from all over the lake.
    any body tried this?

    (2)
other article said dip or spray your jigs with straight cod liver oil.
has any of yall tried this out?

Umm, yeah....never tried that one. Sounds pretty nasty and too much work.

I've heard of both tricks being used. I haven't tried either but I do use the Sparkle Crappie Nibbles with glitter to resemble a baitfish strike. I've heard that the cod liver oil works pretty well also.

Heard of folks using crushed up egg shells and dropping them in to simulate scales Also I know a guy that fished a lake that has deep water near the bank with tree limbs out over the water. He takes a dead animal and hangs from the limb and lets the flies do their thing. As the maggots grow they drop into the water and the fish are there just waiting. Its almost like scooping them out of a bait tank:p Key thing is to stay upwind:D

I have heard of the scale thing . I used to try it years ago but really know if ever helped .My old fishing buddy now 81 told me about it about 15 years ago. Also he said he used to put minnows in a glass gallon jar and submerge it under the boat when anchored to attract fish.

Fished a possum someone had put in a tree to "ripen" once. Took the spinner off of a real small white beetle spin and threw just the grub. Magnum bluegill and stumpknocker were the order of the day. Dead on about the staying upwind. That was my first "jig" fishing, come to think of it.
