Default Crappie Eggs & Spawning Questions??

I into a talk with a fishing buddy about looking at the eggs and spawning.

Can you tell by looking at the eggs and visable blood around the eggs when the crappie will spawn??

I say if the eggs have a lot of blood the spawn is farther away. Reasoning, the female is still putting nutrents into the eggs or they are still maturing eggs. Less blood, eggs have matured and spawn should be close.

His agruement was vica-verse with what I said.

    Which is right??

I have always heard that more blood = closer to spawn. Whether there is any truth to that, I have no idea.

The eggs do always seem to have much more pronounced veins when you catch them on the spawning grounds than they do in the month or two prior to, though.

    Default Crappie Eggs

I have been told more blood and pronounced viens= close to spawn. Also, I remember reading this in one of In-fisherman crappie books.

I've always found the bigger the eggs are, the bloody they will be. That being said bigger eggs mean the spawn is nearer

Bread them eggs and fry them up. the taste will tell you how close to the spawn they are.

Last week I caught about 6 female with eggs. Four of them had eggs that were yellow and and firm. One of them had swollen eggs that had a lot of bloody veins on them. They were almost orange in color and getting transparent. One had the same condition except she had eggs leaking out of her. So the conclusion was that the orange colored transparent and bloody eggs were ready to be laid.

ps: I agree fry 'em up.
