Big females

I heard that the big females will hold off the bank in deeper water. I also heard that the big ones will spawn in top of trees in deep water. Have any of you guys had any luck with this?

I have caught most of my bigger fish (not speaking this year) in deeper water, more like 9'-10' trolling. I am talking about fish in the 17" plus range.

As far as spawning in tree tops, when T-Bend was a pretty new lake the bass would spawn in the tree tops in 40' of water. Now not all of them just some. Can't tell you much about crappie in tree tops though.

Tried it once when I was younger but wound up pulling splinters for weeks.

Most experts claim and I have found to be accurate most of the time is that while the males are making the beds that the females are holding at the same depth over deeper water or the chanel near by.

From my experence the males spend time prespawn hunting and building nests. Then stay to guard the eggs and fry. The big females just dump eggs and leave. I back out to the first drop off and find big females stage'n there.
