Where's the best spot for sinkers

Question for the Spider Riggers. Do you put sinker on the bottom of line or between the hooks. What's a good weight to start with. I was using some 2ounces sinkers and they seem like a heavy pull on the rods. The rods would look like they had fish on them at all time. Is this too much weight. Got a lot to learn about this Spider Rigging. Thanks.

most use half oz sinkers and in the middle

I use 1/2 or 3/4 oz in the middle. Only time I go larger is in the summer when I increase my trolling speed.

I use 3/4 oz most of the time. If wind gets kicked up, I may try up to a 1 oz. If wind is stronger than that, I go home. I use egg sinkers that are looped onto the line 4-5 times then tie a jig 12-24" off the bottom of that. I use 14' wm trolling rods that show the flutter of a scared, and fixing to be eaten, minnow. Be very careful not to lose your current favorite fishing technique to spider riggin. It does happen..I know this from experience! Watch that speed too, very important!

I like to use 1/4 to 1 ounce weights. I try to use the smallest weight that will work during the current conditions. If it is real windy or need to go faster I use a heavier weight. I rig mine up with the weight between the hooks sometimes and sometimes rig it on the bottom. I can't tell that I catch more or less fish either way. I am going to try rigging with a 1/4 ounce jig on the bottom and a crappie hook above tied with a loop knot. I like fishing jigs and minnows. With this setup I don't have to worry about the extra weight. It should make retieing quicker when I do break off.
