    The concept of 'Windfall Profits' is something only held by folks wanting to do away with a free market. In my view a free market has demonstrated that it is best capable of supplying the goods and services needed by mankind where as government has failed miserably at supplying goods needed by mankind. It absurd to think that there is a maximum amount of profit a company should be able to make. The return on investments for oil companies is much lower than the ROI earned by Microsoft. Just my .02.

    People with families and the our elderly can chose to use Microsofts services and how much of Microsofts services they want to purchase.For the most part cooling and heating bills come every month.Since alot if not most of this oil comes out from under government owned property and these big companies lease the right to drill each of us that is an Americans citizen share of this under ground GOLD.I for one dont think Micro soft and big oil companies is a reasonable comparison.I think these Big oil companies should put something back,like pay extra taxes for schools and hospitals. Microsoft is a man's invention~~~~~~ oil is not an invention.And those that profit from America's Natural resources should be held to a higher standard and should be held accountable ..................

    I see a problem there.If there taxed on a profit the price of oil will only go up to make up for the loss.Who do you think that would affect the most? If you guessed the poor,you win!I have to have food to survive so what you're saying we should tax kroger and wal mart on their profit's? It's true i dont need microsoft but I can afford it.Every tax is a blow to the poor and not me as much.If I earn 7.50hr I cant buy very much gas.If I make 25.00hr I can buy more gas.If we both have to pay a tax I can buy some gas and they cant buy any.What Im trying to say is any tax affect's the poor the most.

    I agree. I believe this is a "feel good" attempt to appease us by attacking the big bad wolf, the oil companies. Where is their definition of "unreasonable profits"? After the extraordinary amount of money they have to invest to get the product, their profits are in the single digits. Compared to many, many other businesses, this is certainly not unreasonable. This has been tried before, back in the 80's, and the results were not even close to benefiting anyone here, people or business. It just drove the oil business more overseas. This windfall profit tax, if passed again, will not effect the vast majority of big oil businesses. Most are not U.S. companies. The only result from messing with the market on this will be for our energy cost to go up even more and we are the ones that will pay for that.

    Why doesn't big government give back by:

    A) not taking so much of our money to begin with and
    B) allowing the oil companies to drill the billions of barrels we're currently sitting on?

    We got good road in west tn cause the former governor lives here. He needed better roads to run his beer trucks over.

    Politics=what's in it fer me? Our democracy runs off greed. Gotta have it.

    The problem I see is everybody wants it and don't wanna do anything to earn it.

    It= anything.

    We don't need the government managing anything. All government managed programs have failed or are failing.

    Sure don't need them (GOV) in the oil business now do we?
