I've often wondered that too as brushless motors have been around for a long time. Maybe not enough torque? (just a guess)
Not really new technology. It is just not available from Motorguide or Minn Kota. The brushless motors are far superior operating and far more efficient than a brushed motor.
I used brushless motors in my models. By far less troublesome than the brushed models.
I am sure someone in China makes a brushless motor type trolling motor. Wonder why Motorguide or Minn Kota haven't advanced into this technology.
