If you can afford it the Humminbird SI units are incredible.
Ok I know that someone has probably asked this many times but I am kind of dumb when comes to Depth Finders. I am wanting to buy a Good Depth Finder that does a good job. I read articale that say they can actually see the fish biting there jig. I need some advice on what kind to buy and how much I am looking at spending. Anything would help.
Thanks and God Bless

sd, I can't speak of the high end units, but I like my Humminbird 565 w/ temperature. I know you do a lot of fishing, and may need more capabilities than I do. Mine does a fine job showing the bottom, stumps, trees, rock piles, fish, etc. for 200 bucks. I can see my jig on the screen, I don't know about that "fish biting their jig" deal though. I suppose it would if the jig was under the trolling motor and the fish took it, I don't know, never looked for it.

Top fishing tackle and accessories: Southwick Associates recently polled 16,258 fishermen to find out which brands of tackle and accessories were the most popular for 2007.
Top electronics: Lowrance (55.5 percent of all radio or GPS and 35 percent of all fish finder purchases).

I think the best would be one that fits your boat, the waters you fish and your budget. For me the choice was the hummingbird 727c Combo With the WIDE-SIDE transducer. At $300.00 it fits my needs I have a 14' duracraft with a 15hp rude. Also the lakes I fish are oxbows and brakes average depth 8' or less. To me it makes no sense to pay a thousand or two for a accessory unless I upgrade the boat rods reels etc.
I would choose a Hummingbird because you get more bang for your buck.
