My mothers family was from Wise County, Coeburn. I have also heard them talk about Caney Ridge. I don't know if that is a town or just the area where they grew up.

Coeburn is very close to Caney Ridge.Caney Ridge is just a big ole mountain that seperates the 2 counties.Caney ridge is where my father was rasied also.Small world.Caney ridge is about 5-7 minutes from my house,Oh ask them about Sandy Ridge they both on top of same mountain.

PS.Not sure if you listen to Bluegrass music or not.But the famous Dr.Ralph Stanley lives on Sandy Ridge.I'm sure they will know when you mention it.

No one left to ask, Mom & all her brothers & sisters are all gone. Uncle Everette died a while back, he was the only one left in Coeburn. Maybe some cousins still in that area, sad, but I don't really stay in touch with them. Hey, you might be one of them, that would be a small world! They were Funks, & no that isn't a typo.:D I still have a sister in Abingdon, she is a few years older & would probably know more about it. She keeps me up to date on happenings up that way.

PS I love bluegrass & am very familiar with Ralph Stanley
