Default how NOT to break a rod.

I hear alot of fussin about this company or that company when it comes to replacing a broken rod tip. I'd like to find out why do you think rod tips brake and how might a new guy avoid it.

Longer poles are often cumbersome in a boat and it's easy to catch a tip and break it off. I personally use speaker wire or 2 sided velcro to band my rods together ANYTIME I am not using them. If I am not fishing with them at that exact time, I break them down and strap the two pieces together. I have broken tips in the past but have not broken a single tip (knock on wood) since I started banding them together when not in use. I made a note to myself to always band the rod pieces together. My buddies wonder why I never break tips and this is why. I still might break on trying to shove a jig through brush, but I don't break them in transport or when getting ready to fish.
Caught so many fish today my thumb is sore from clicking the counter.

    Default idea from BPS

They wrap a small rubber band around an eyelet, they wrap it around the pieces and secure it back to the eyelet. I tie mine to the eyelet so it's always quick to find. My new rod was wrapped that way from the factory, so I guess it ok to do it that way.

Good idea! It'll be embarassing to buy girls' hair clips, but I'll have to try it anyway. :D

B n M will tell you that their rods are only rated for 6lb test. Make sure you have your drag set properly and net any big fish.

If that embarrasses you, you must not be married or have daughters. Trust me you will end up buying things that are much more uncomfortable. Actually after the first time or two it's no different than buying a carton of milk or loaf of bread. I just hate those price checks.
