    Default 16 ft crappie poles

On a recent trip to local sporting goods retailer I saw some B&M Capps and Coleman series 16ft crappie rods. I've read some articles where the longer poles seem to fair well when fishing shallow water for crappie. I was wondering if there were any other applications where having a 16ft rod offers an advantage.

I experimented trolling crankbaits this year and thought that having two 16ft at the front of boat and staggering the rods the length of the boat, might work. Any body have an opinion or experience with the longer rods.

Spider rigging them out to the side works and then the farther into the middle of the boat you go use a slightly smaller pole. 16' 14' 12' 10' trolling motor then the same on the other side just opposite.

    Default spider rigging

On Reelfoot, we love the Wally Marshall 14 and 16 foot poles for spider rigging. They are light and lightning fast. They also hold up much better than other brands.

In the shallow water that we fish, we see a real increase in strikes going from the 14 to the 16 foot poles.

16 fters are harder to handle than 12 and 14 fters, but they do get the bait on out in front of the boat better.

I noticed Wally even has an 18' now -

14 is the longest I've fished with. At first it was real comical getting the
fish in the net but have about got used to it now, and they don't seem
    so long anymore.

If you fish the Wally tightliners you will be hooked. They are great when pushing jigs with heavy weights, trolling cranks, I also use mine when longlining to increase the width of my spread. Keeps lines seperated and covers more ground.
