in southwest louisiana...they are called white perch or sac-a-lait.....since i live in florida now i call them "croppie"

my ex father-in law, who taught me how to catch them, called them croppie but in NC we call them crappie and great with hushpups

In So Ga we pronounce it specks as in speckled perch. In consideration of friends from other areas that don't know what a speck is, I sometimes call them crappie (like happy)
