Default How do you troll for Crappie

I grew up fishing for fish. None in paticular. My father fished for crappie with a float and that is all that I have ever used. Hear people talk about trolling and tight line but have no Ideal how to do it. I am simple and hope that someone can give me a simple way to do both. Thanks for any help you can give.

The way I longline troll, you just throw your bait back as for as you can or want to,set your pole in the rod holder's and set back and watch your rods,I always use a GPS to keep the speed I want, most of the time I run about 1.3,I like to use roadrunner's or horsehead's and hairjig's in 1/8.

I just tie two jigs on,I like a hair jig on top and a roadrunner on bottom, that will keep the bottom bait about two foot of bottom, with a speed of 1.3 and 6 lb. test line,I like to use this set up in 20 ft down to 10 ft of water, anything less I will only use one bait and I may even increase the speed a little.

Sure you can, lots of folks in this area troll with only minnows,I like to use the plain roadrunners with only a hook and blade tip with a minnow.some guys use the crappie rigs you can buy at waltmart and use just plain old minnows with a weight at the bottom.

elyj, u can tie a 3 way swival on the end of your line and then take another peice of line about 1 1/2 ft long and tie to the bottom of the 3 way then tie another 3 way on the end of that line then come down another foot with another peice of line and tie a weight we always use 2 oz weights because u can troll faster but if your poles cant handle a 2 oz weight you can go as small as u need to. then you tie a leader of of each 3 way swival with a minnow or a jig which ever u prefer. u normaly want your swivals to be about 18 inches apart and your leaders dont need to but about 6 inches long if that. it is the same principal as the ones u buy at walmart u just make them yourself. its alittle cheaper.
