Default My first home made bead jig

I can't tie, but, I can super glue.

This jig is 1/16 oz super lite wire with collar. I purchased some pony beads at the dolla store for the "bead body". The pony bead is just rite size hole to slide over the collar.

First, I slide the bead over the hook. Then I use waterproof super glue and dab it on the hook collar and let stand 10 minutes. Then I go pee.

After the break, I slide the marabou thru the bead then push the bead onto the collar as far as i can and let the glue set up.

After the glue sets up, I trim the excess marabou.

I don't really know how long to leave the marabou tail (past the hook).

My jig vice is a hemostat clamp which is clamped in my pcb board vice.

    Cheap operation.

    Ain't you clever.
I like the idea of using the beads to add color and bulk to the jig head.
I have heard that the feathers should go just beyond the bend of the hook.
Will have to try some jigs myself. JoAnns Fabric and the dollar stores sell some of the feather bollas which should work for the feathers.
Keep up the GOOD WORK, Tom. We all are learning with out attending day school.

I can't tie my shoes. Nephropathy in hands and feet getting bad. I do not have diabetes. It is a present from Southeast Asia.

I can squeeze a tube of super glue. I am trying out this waterproof Loctite glue. I will soak a jig overnight and see if the jig is still together.

I am also experimenting with chenille stems for the body. I mad a jig using the wire chenille stem for th body, then super glued all stuff together (soaked in glue). It ain't perfect as it is my first, but it it will work and it is fast and easy to do.

The glue description says it is waterproof and dishwater safe. I'll find out before I make any more jigs with the glue. I can always e5000 marine glue. Slow drying though.

Chenille wire stem body jig. Wrapped the marabou onto the jig collar using the wire stem chenille. First try. Probably used too much glue. I didn't glue my fingers together though. I use alligator clips to gold stuff in place while gluing. You can see the emerald green chenille wire stem I used hanging on the stats handle ring.

That's a sharp idea Tom. I like the bead thing. Some quick set epoxy would also do if the super glue doesn't stay. What Flycaster said about length is a good starting point. Leave the natural tips, more action. Cutting them doesn't look or work near as well. When tying, a lot of us use Sally Hansons hard as nails and I have used the epoxy when done to hold odd pieces in place. Sally is cheap and holds good. It's what I used on the jigs I sent you. Keep it up Tom, you give everyone something to do when you do a post like this.
