Vinyl or Carpet floor ?

Just bought a used 20 ft. Seaark that has vinyl in it that is in poor condition. I like the idea of being able to clean it but the boat I have now is carpeted and its a fairly simple job to clean about once a month with the power washer. Just wanted some input and ideas from ya'll of what you have and like or dislike about either one before I deside to repair what's there or change it out for carpet. I'll most likely be doing the work myself. My boat is primarly (sorry about the spelling) used for fishing but we do take our kids and grandkids out some for recreation in warm weather.Thanks for your ideas and input in advance. paw paw perch

i fish out of a 20 ft sea ark also. i put a aluminum floor in it then covered it with a non skid rubber mat

There are many pros and cons to carpet, but it gets my vote.
The biggest pro...I like to get bare foot in the summer in my boat. I don't think I would enjoy vinal as much.
The biggest con...my toon boat wasn't cleaned very often before I purchased it. It has algae growing in it when it gets wet. I am gaining on it with a bleach and detergent solution along with the power washer. But, it still shows up occasionaly when it gets wet.

I have two boats. My little boat has vinyl, my big boat has carpet. I like the vinyl because it is so much easier to clean and keep clean. Catfish slime and coffee are both hard on carpet.

I have had both vinal and carpet. I tend to like the carpet alot more because of the non-skid. Plus by useing carpet you tend not to spook the fish nearly as much.

The only time the vinyl in my boat seemed a little slippery was when it got snow in it while fishing. Now corn chips, crappie nibbles, catfish slime, squished minnows and worm dirt no long cause any consternation on my part. Just wished I could get more fish slime in it.:D

While standing in the showroom one can stand there and rub your hands on the carpet and think how nice it feels but for me I fished out of a carpeted boat for ten years and never once went barefooted on it or layed down on it so I went with vinyl and I haven't regretted the decision.

I installed indoor/outdoor carpet in my boat. This is the second boat that I have put this exact carpet in. I bought it at Lowe's and it is virtually stain proof. Living in South Carolina you have to deal with red clay that stains everything. On this carpet the red mud and so far everything has just washed off with plain water. Also in the heat of the summer the carpet does not get hot like vinyl does.

I would think about some bed liner that they use in pick up trucks. There are 2 kind, there is a hard surface on and one that you can feel it give when you push you thumb nail into it. It's very tough, but spongy feeling which makes it less slippery than the very hard one and will last for ever.

I put some on my boat gunwale because I had a paint problem there from the first weekend I had it. Instead of sending it back that agreed to pay to have the bed liner put on my boat gunwale.

Anyway that is my 2 cents!

Yep. The main part of the floor in mine is vinyl, and it bears watching when
it's wet. Especially when it's like last Sunday and the water is freezing in
the floor. (water slopped out of minnow bucket, and from pulling in
drift socks)
