    Default Humminbird down imaging question

Today, I put out a brush pile consisting of one Christmas tree, one gum tree and one persimmon tree. When I went back over the pile to check it, I could not differentiate between the Christmas tree and those with more well defined limbs. Am I not doing something correct with my settings? I would have thought I could distinctly see the limbs on the persimmon and gum tree. Thanks!

How fast did you go over them?

How deep did you sink them?

Which unit are you running? We also run hb units and have had similar issues with crowded looking returns.

X2. You need to be moving at least 1mph or your returns will be flat and undefined. 4 mph is ideal, and set your chart speed to match your boat speed. Also, set your bottom depth 1-2 ft deeper than the depth of water you are scanning. Do not set it on auto. You will get a much clearer image if you do this.

Did you drop three trees, or one brushpile? I think if you let them go all at once and tied together, they will look like a bunch of limbs all piled together.

The trees were dropped individually, but close together in 15 ft of water. I probably was running around 2mph. I think my chart speed was around 3.

You'll have to match your boat speed to your sonar speed setting. Adjust your sensitivity to the best setting. I can scan my trees and see a definite "upside down cone" of the tree. For my PVC trees all I see is the small concrete block on bottom and a faint image of what looks like a stick (algae forming on pvc I think). For you trees with no leaves You will still see a cone but it will be more "see thru" or faint.

Okay, thanks guys. I guess I was expecting to see much clearer limb structure. I'll try these tips, thanks again!
