Just curious what others use for bait in winter. BGBS in Electric Chicken is my go to bait, but I also use bucktails, spoons, and minnows at times.

2 Big ole fat 2.5" shiners on #1 hooks with a tube jig ran up the hook. 1oz egg sinker between hooks 2' apart

I have been away from fresh water fishing for many, many years. But about 30 years ago, when I was a teenager, a small Johnson Silver Minnow with a white 1-1/2" curlytail grub crawled slowly across the bottom as slow as I could reel, caught MANY beautiful fish in the middle of winter! Everything would hit that thing, from bass and catfish, to crappie, yellow perch and giant bluegills! It worked in the summer, too, but it was the go-to bait when there was snow on the ground.

In fact, remembering this has me determined to go out and try this out locally! Will post my results after I go.

Bobby Garland and hand tied jigs tipped with minnows. Lights Out and Blue Ice are the best colors on Texas lakes I have found. The minnow makes them hold the jig longer to set hook since they bite so light and slow in the cold water.
