Have 4, 6 and 10. Just fresh spooled 4lb on a couple reels this morning. Are you checking for kinks and flipping spool if needed. I also either use blakemore of KVD conditioner for the line. 2nd year with viscious Hi-Vis. Cannot beat it for the price! Never have issues

I would get a spray can of Real Magic that Blakemore sells. I love that stuff!

That's how I spool my reels. I put on backing then pull out the amount of line I need to Finnish. Tie it on and reel it in.
Never a problem, works with all reels.

Depends on what you're calling a "nightmare"

Jumping off the spool in loops, when you open the bail = too much line, or too small a reel for 8lb test.
If you're sure it went on the reel correctly = too small a reel
If it comes off the reel "twisted" = incorrectly spooled

I'm using 6lb Vicious hi-vis on several different sized reels ... from a Shakespeare Alpha XT 1000 UL to a Mitchell 308X ... and have had no problems. 6lb test Vicious Panfish Hi-vis is .010 dia., so your 8lb test .011 dia. line should not be that much stiffer.

I'd walk off 1/2 of the line, in the grass, and reel it back on ... then cast it a few times to see if that straightened it out. Or, drag that 1/2 in the water behind a boat going idle speed, for a minute or so, then reel it back on. If neither of these tricks work ... line is too big for the reel.

And remember .... ALWAYS spool or retrieve mono under tension !! Loosely spooled line will come off the reel in gobs of loops, and if the line is retrieved under tension over loose coils, it will crimp that part of the line that's loosely coiled ... lessening its strength.

Or you may not have put enough tension on the line as you spooled 'em up, loose line on the spool will also cause it to jump off so to speak. Take all the line off the spool, and stretch it across the yard, then put some tension on the line as you reel backit on.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
