I guess it depends on who's catching them. I'd say 12" is a pretty darn good one.

Welcome from Louisiana. The requirements of slab depends on a lot, mostly whether or not there are witnesses to debate the issue. I think everyone has their own standard of slab, but to me it is anything above the average fish for the area I am fishing.

RD, thanks for asking the question that I've been too hesitant to ask. Apparently, it seems to be a somewhat flexible measurement!

    Where 'bouts in MA, roughly?

Hey from Alabama. In the private lakes I fish it would be 14" so it depends on the waters you fish.

i guess i got me some slabs. this past season, we had no ice where i fish. season before, i started fishing fishing for crappies after catchng a couple ice fishing. started small and then got one 11" . got a few more between 11-12" then 13, and 14. last month, while fishing for bass, saw a suspended school in the fishfinder and dropped a minnow. WHAM! pulled up a 15 incher.

    i'm from Peabody, MA

never be afraid to ask a question. there is no stupid question. there is always someone out there who has the same question and will be thankful that you asked.
