    Default This is crazy

I saw something here a while back, I haven't told but one guy this story cause it's plain crazy. I was fishing my local lake which was built in the 40's, and is void of any trees of any kind. There are fish attractors scattered around the lake consisting of big piles or areas of cedar trees placed by our F&G. Now this story goes like this, myself and one other boater were fishing a particular area, catching some crappie here and there when it kinda just dried up, nothing. This other feller grabs a rope, it's got a window weight tied to it. He proceeds to tell me he's gonna get 'em going again and drops the weight down and takes off dragging this thing through this big area of brush. I'm watching my graph and it comes to life with fish scurrying about fearing for their life. After about 10 minutes he quits, reels in his weight and says to me "give it 20-30 minutes tops, they'll start up again" 'm sitting there be-wildered, thinking it was about time to go home anyways. But, I had to see this, really I did. At 17 minutes came the first bite, the fish were outside of the brush and had calmed down, I guess, and started to play again, actually better than before. This guy tells me after a bit that "with the warm water that scurrying about burns up their dinner and makes them hungry again". I originally thought this guy was nuts, but it seemed to work. Anybody ever heard of something this crazy?

I have caught green carp on the bank when a boat would come by leaving a big wake that got bait fish all stred up when the waves washed up in the shallows. You saw the results yourself cause when those fish got stirred up bet there was bait fish that got stirred up at the same time.

I kinda do somethen like that when the crappie are in the shallows. I moter threw the area im gunna fish to stur up the microscopic plankton that gets the minnows feeding that gets the crappie feeding. I never hurd of burning off there dinner but whatever works.

Sometimes inactive fish can be made active by a disturbance such as a boat. I have caught Bass after a boat passed. Seen Crappie yoyo bite fire up after boat passed too. What can it hurt if fishing is dead slow?

I heard about one guy that would anchor up at a brush pile---take his paddle and slap the water several times---throw out a couple handfulls of corn meal---catch crappie. Repeat as necessary..........

Makes sense......get the minnows feeding then the crappie feed.

I never heard of that, but it seems like something worth trying when there's not much action at one of the old reliable spots. I'm sure we've all seen the action pick up sometimes after a passing boat "stirs up the water".

I only fish on days of the week that end with
a "Y" ...and then, only if it's raining or not.

This certainly sure sounds like it might be the opportune time and situation for someone to be dragging a big ol log chain around.

Sorry Tom just stirring the pot here and I sure hope your stitches have healed enough that you don't bust any out from this post. As the consummate pot stirrer I know you are and admire, I'm sure you have also experienced those impulses one just can't resist and go a head and post.
