Depends upon which type of handle. Some of the ones that go over the handle and tighten down with a wing nut aren't bad but your limited to how fast you can go. The handles that come in sections are one of the ones you shhould stay away from. One piece are better. I have one on my 15 hp Johnson and when I use it and move to the center bench seat I can pick up about 5 mph with the weight that I distributed towards the front of the boat. If you get the longer ones they are a little harder when turning the motor they want to flex. Just slow down a little and they work fine. I mostly use mine when I'm trolling or setting out decoys in the fall.
