    Default dumb question.......(vert trolling/spider riging)

ok Im not to proud to ask a goofy question....I do some vert trolling/spider riging, but its never in shallow water....use 12ft rods....now if im vert trolling/spider rigging in shallow water, whats the best way to land the fish once you hook it??? what I mean is, say I got 3ft of line down from the tip of the rod to the jig, if I lift the fish up like I normally do and try and swing em in the boat, that suckers roughly 9ft in the air, not to mention maybe snapping off the rod tip......so how the heck do you land em?? thanks for any info, have a great one all, God bless.

Ladder maybe? lol. I'd say carefully slip some line and land in a quality net. A bit of help from your partner couldn't hurt.

With a loose drag you can pull line off the reel. If it's a slab....GET DA' NET!!!

Thats why I like trigger spin reels...you can easily release the line as you bring the rod up and your other hand is on the reel handle to stop it....it may seem awkward at first but its easy to get used to.

I use baitcasters with thumb bars. Simply let off line as you raise the pole.

Just hand over hand and bring the pole back to you even if the reel has to go in the water, when the pole is short enough grab the fish or net it if its big.
