I usually start finding good sized worms 1st or 2nd week of July.

I started a worm farm last year in a big 5 gallon bucket. Easiest thing in the world to do. Threw in a handful of red wigglers, dump in my coffee filters and leftover veggies occasionally, and in a few months you have a ton of worms.

**oops, sorry- missed "Catapal" in the title.

I got the Catapal worms off my trees this past week. No more leaves left on the trees. Some times the leaves will come back for second round and so will the worms.
