Go with the larger jon. I know where You are there is wind blowing just about all the time. Lower profile will be better. regular jon would probably be more stable than the V too.CF
I'm thinking about a new (used) alum. boat was wondering what people thinks better for crappie fishing I have a jon now just want to go bigger. Some people say v-bottoms are harder to control in wind what do you guys think?

Alot depends on where you are going to use it. V will handle waves MUCH better. Jon will be more stable at rest.
As far as control I think my V is easier to control around the docks then my jon was in the wind. Think about how the V cuts the water when you go through it as opposed to a flat front. Why would the wind resistance be any different?
To me if ya fish rivers or small bodies of water the jon boat is king. If ya fish larger lakes and open water the V is king. I have a flat bottom now but next will be a V. If I was buying today this would be it G3 Boats - Outfitter V170 T or I also like this in 16' or 18' G3 Boats - Guide V18, V16 XT, V16, V14 XT, V14, V12 and mod it to my liking.
V...as long as you have a deck in it.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.
Get a modified v and have the best of both.
