1/4oz most of the time, heavier in windy conditions for pitching around brush.
In spring I go to 1/32 for the really shallow bite.
I use 1/8th regularly and now that the fish are deep, 1/4 wouldn't be out of line. I vertical jig and troll but have never have trolled with anything over 1/8. Someone posted last year that they used 1/2 oz tight lining and said that the crappie didn't care.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Use both 1/8 and 1/4 in summer and at night summer. Also will use 1/8 on windy days when they are in about 11'-15' (water depth) trolling by just holding it right next to me.

o ya lots of jobs for the bigger jigs. use them to increase lure speed , deal with current or wind ,
increase depth ,bigger thump on bottom to call em in ,penetrate heavy weeds or cover are just a few.

I use 1/8 the majority of the time when tightlining. I have used 1/4 when I fish real deep. You have better feel with it. You can feel the bite better and also when you are bumping into brush. Also good to use when it is windy.
For casting, I normally use 1/16th except on real still days when fish seem to prefer a slow fall, then I use a 1/32nd.
1/8th is the heaviest jig I'll use, anything else doen't feel right on the end of my line.
