I've caught more rockfish on live bait than lures. In Tim's Ford you catch bream on flyrod popping bug and then freeline the bream about 25foot down. Catching the bait is as much fun as catching stripers. Sometimes a smallmouth grabs your popping bug. In the TN river Shad or small skipjacks are the choice. Fish them right off the bottom. Carching skipjack is a lot of fun on an ultrlite rigged with a white jig with white or chartruse dressing. When the stripes are in the tail race I've caught them on jerkbaits, jigs and castmaster s.

The Storm swimbait in shad color works great on schooling fish. Live bait is the choice .

Streamers and jigs are good in tail waters I hear . Be sure the hooks are heavy sea guard or better. stripers are mean motor scooters.

Live bait most of the time, pulling umbrellas during late fall and winter, only throw lures around late summer when there coming up top, usually a redfin.
