    Default A reel question

    First off Hi guys!
I got a wild hair the other day and bought a new pole and reel.
My father always used Shimano lures and reels, they have lasted him a very long time. So I decided id get one. I bought the Shimano Syncopate 2500 FG.
I have never put my own pole together usually my father did that for me. Needless to say I spooled the line on backwards (Ill be fixing that today).
This reel wasnt cheap and I am just not getting it.
It seems like the reel wont lock, it will start spinning backwards and releasing all my line. I went to the Shimano website and they were no help they just gave me product info. Ive usually had shakespears and they were never this complicated.....PLease help?

Should be a lever under your spool, that will allow you to back reel. Check this, if thats not the case, you may have a defective reel.

You should have a small lever right under the front of the spool just flip it that should stop it from spinning backwards. Welcome from Alabama.

    .

Have you found water in Nevada? Just kidding. We use Shimano reels on our crappie rods, we have 6 or 8 spooled up and ready. We have never had a complaint with any of them except that they sink just like other brands when they fall overboard.
We use the Symetre more than other models.

Where do you fish? What body of water?

About to get a new Sustain 1000FE this weekend or at least going to order it. Just flip that switch (the guys above are right) and it will stop.

Y'all are forgetting your manners. Let me be the first to say Welcome to the best website that ever was. Middle Tennessee officially wavin' a big hello. They are all correct about the reel. Also, there are no dumb questions here. Most of us have worked our way through most of the "textbook" mistakes. Feel free to ask anything, and ask ahead if you travel and you might get to meet, or even fish with some of your fellow members. Tight lines....

Welcome from Alabama. You got the correct advice. Just flip the lever over. Lots of knowledgeable folk on this forum.

welcome from Louisiana.........looks like you have a great reel....I assume it has the Quickfire release on it......I have about 8 or 10 of them......the lever is black and just under the cranking handle......you probably found it by now...one thing about the reels with the Quckfire release....they do not have the anti-reverse feature (cannot crank backwards) on them.....by flipping the lever you have the option of (1)locking the reel (creating no cranking backwards) or (2) the other position allowing yourself the option to reel backwards which I love on these reels....once you master the Quickfire you will love it......

The best price I have seen on these reels is a site someone on Crappie.com posted.....it is below......good fishing....

Your anti-reverse switch is in the "off" position, it will be a little switch at the back of the reel... turn it to the "on" position.
