    Default weed killer?

I usally use Round up to kill weeds, but I see that Wal-Mart sells a brand called "weed be gone" for about half the price. I just wondered if anyone ever used the weed be gone and if was any good.

I use Weed Be Gone in my yard for dandelions and other broad leaf weeds but wouldn't use Round Up since it should brown up everything it comes in contact with. The Weed Be Gone isn't supposed to kill your good grasses. I do use Round Up to kill anything green growing through the cracks in the sidewalk.

I have used weed b gon a lot. I buy the concentrate rather than the pre-mix. I mix my solutions on the strong side (2x and 3x) depending on what I am targeting. Dandelions and buckhorn I use 1x to 2x on a sunny day. Thistles 3x.

If you have a Big R or TSC (farm type store) near you, you might want to check out the off brands that contain the same active ingredient as Round-Up. I usually buy "Hi-Yield" and it's about 1/3 tp 1/2 the price with the same percentage of active ingredient as Round-Up.

weed b gone and round up are totally different classes of herbicide. Roundup is non selective, which means it kills anything it comes in contact with. Weed b gone is a broadleaf herbicide, active ingredient is 2-4-D, it kills early season broadleafs without harming turfgrasses. Weed b gone will not kill crabgrass, you need a herbicide with MSMA as the active ingredient it is also not harmful to most turfgrass.

I use an array of stuff, Ortho, RoundUp, and something from Southern States. They are all specific, no all-in-wonders out there. RoundUp weed and grass(systemic style killer)for anything I don't want growing. Any broad leaf killer regardless of brand, Ortho crabgrass killer, etc.. I use them my dial-n-spray, pump sprayer, and squirt bottles. Because I HATE weeds.

Regardless of the brand you choose to use, I will give you a tip that a quality control rep from Monsanto shared with a group of us one day. It works good. Once you have your weed killer mixed according to instructions add some Joy dish washing soap. This will cause the weed killer to stick to the weeds and not run off. Try it.

You add the liquid Joy or whatever brand to the mix if the Herbacide does not already have surfactant in it. The dishwashing liquid acts as a surfacant. I use Roundup and or 2-4-D in the Spring when the wild grass comes out and before the Bermuda starts to grow. This will kill everything. Jusy be sure to not use 2-4-D on a windy day because it will hug the ground and your wife will be mad when her plants die. After the yard comes out I spot spray with High Octane MSMA to kill the broadleafs. This will turn the bermuda brown but it will come back in about 10 days. In weather over 85 degrees the MSMA will kill in a few hours...as in spray in the morning...shriveled in the afternoon. When you spray in the cold weather of early spring it will take a few days, sometimes a couple of weeks, for you to notice the Roundup kill. When the roundup gets on it, it is dead. Roundup is a steroid, makes the grass eccelerate and die.

You can find the High Octane MSMA at Farmers Co-ops...about $20 a gallon...takes about 3 ounces per gallon of water...in real hot weather about 2 ounces per gallon.
