    Default Any gunsmiths ? ?


    Got a 1851 Colt cap / ball.............. had a broken hand / spring, replaced it but now won`t cock for firing..............cocks and fires fine without the cylinder , half cock ok with the cylinder but hammer won`t come back far enough to cock.................

    is there a device, that secures the cylinder in place when the hammer is pulled all of the way back?? If so check to see if it is fully seating before the hammer gets to full cock.
    I am not a gun smith so my terminology is way off.

    Guess that would be the "Timing" I`ve read about? Maybe the new hand /spring too long? I`ll check it , thanks !

    Got it working ! hand / spring assembly a "tad" too long, filed some more and finally got it working correctly............. plan to shoot some this weekend , enjoy Thanksgiving , catch some fish........

    No not original, a reproduction, Pietta , brass frame 1851 Navy Colt .44 (open top) fun to shoot
