    Default Line Color

I have been trying several line colors to see what are the effects and how the fish react. I have read in several books and magazines that it does not affect or change readtion, but I have some cases where it has.

I have been on a brush pile and catching fish, switch from a green mono to a hi vis yellow and they shut down take the green and drop it back in and they start up again. I used the same jig only change was the line color.

    your thoughts?????????

Well....my thoughts are different than yours. I use Mr. Crappie hig vis yellow....thats about all I use anymore. I actually think sometimes the fish see the line and follow it down to the jig or minnow. This may not be so....but anyhow I seen to do better with it.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I am kind of new to the crappie seen but that is why I am asking questions. I have been fishing bass tourneys for 15 years and I am trying to adapt alot of the techniques from bass fishing to crappie.

In bass fishing water clarity is the key and line visibility. That is why we use low vis to almost clear lines. For crappie it seems it is not so much for the fish but the fisherman (Line watching).

If the lake is clear the hi-vis will spook the fish if it is stained it don't matter. But I have seen it make a difference in clear water just my 2 cents worth,

I used to use stren hi-vis & never thought it affected fish. I now use either Gamma or Vicious only & enjoy the best of both worlds-clear & hi-vis. Here's what I do for two reasons
Line on reel is 4#Hi-Vis, this is tied to a very small barrel swivel, tied to the other end of barrel swivel is a 2# clear leader about 16-20 inch long with jig/hook on other end.
    1. now i can still see lite bites & can fish gin clear water no problem
    2. If I get a good snag a quick pull breaks the 2# line fast,I don't disrupt the whole brush pile, & I don't loose my slip float set up as the small swivel keeps slip rig intact.(2# always breaks @ one of its knots) Yes a 6#/4# setup works great also.
    3. I also believe the easy split/wing weights cause line/bait to spin in water under float which is not natural, and the swivel helps to prevent most of this spinning-Just my opinion-that of a stubborn old dog...
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.....

This is helpful for someone like me that is getting into crappie fishing. I almost bought some hi-vis my last trip to cabela's, but went with the camo color instead simply because I am also leery on line color. This rig setup sounds like a good idea. I'll have to put it to use after I get some 2 lb line :p

I can't really declare any color the "one". However, I really like the Suffix tangerine. It looks like sherbet ice cream and feels like silk panties. MOAO

I use hi vis yellow and orange...I do not notice the differnece but most of our lakes have stained water. If you got in real clear water situations I could see it making a difference.

Been wondering the same thing myself. I use the hi vis stuff and really can't tell that much of a difference between it and the green/camo. I actually read an article one time that said the chartreuse colored lines attract fish. I don't really know if that is true or not either. It sure didn't happen this past weekend.
