i have heard that CRAPPIE USA has it the works again. it used to cost $5.00 for a ticket and was alot of fun thinking about winning and catching TANGLE TAIL TOM OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
I think that's what it was called. What ever happened to it, why did it stop?
Does anyone out there know? Just curious. Used to fish it in TX when it came
around, think it lasted 60 days. A bunch of crappie were caught, tagged, and
released into whatever body of water the tournament was being held on. It
was back in the early 90's when I was into fishing for crappie but didn't get
much further into the sport-wasn't up on what all was going on in the crappie
fishing world. There were some big-name sponsors that put it on and then the
regional and local businesses would sponsor so much in cash & merchandize.
If you caught a tagged crappie you might get a fairly good chunk of change if
you got lucky but more likely $25, dinner for 2 at Leftys' Diner, or a pair of
lawnchairs from Hardware Hanks. Anyway it was fun and I was wondering if
anyone knew the story of its' rise & fall.

Used to have the same thing here on Pickwick also.
Sure was a lot of good prizes and cash involved in it. Would like to see it come back here.

Funny, those were not even close to the words that VanVector and I shared at the Rathbun event in '97. What was said I will keep confidential, but is was all about greed, nothing more.
A very unfortunate end to a marketing movement that could of easily catapulted Crappie tournament paydays to the likes of Bass & Walleye circuits. Very much a shame! We even caught 2 $1,000 dollar fish, plus some $25 & $50 fish thrown in along the ways too. The BIG money fish was to catch "Tangle Free Tom" - $50,000 bonus if you caught him on Johnson's new rod & reel setups. I still have 5 of those old reels, Igloo coolers, ...
