    Default Neoprene Fishing Gloves

Anyone know of a good pair of neoprene gloves for the winter? I'd like something that I can grip the fish with and take them off the hook. Mainly want to keep my hands from getting cold and wet. Found some on Basspro.com but they have slits in the fingers for tying lures, instead I can just take my gloves off for that, I've heard the slits allow water in.

Check here. Looks like there are some neoprene gloves here without the finger slits.

In my experience, neoprene gloves are useless. They make my hands colder than they would have been without any at all. The one exception is a pair that is too big for me. My hands are not in full contact with them, so they are not quite as cold. Neoprene gloves that FIT me, are colder than wet jerseys. No foolin'. I use a good wool glove when picking up decoys, etc. and wring them out when they get soaked with water. Put them back on, good to go. They're way warmer wet than dry, tight neoprenes. Just my experience with them.

Well that's no good. Did your gloves have any kind of lining in them or did they just have the rubber? Anyone else have a bad experience with them. If so I'll just get a cheap pair of wool ones.

My experience with them has not been good, either. In addition to them not keeping my hands warm, I have had problems with them cutting off the circulation to my pinkies -- not a life-threatening situation, but it's annoying.

Good to know you like wool. I was thinking about that myself. The gloves I use most often now are a wool/polyester blend. They're OK, but it sounds like pure wool is a much better option.

I agree with talltimber's assesment exactly. Even if they don't let any of the cold water from outside enter they also don't let your perspiration generated from you hands get out which is major problem in cold weather in trying to keep warm.

I use the Glacier Gloves flip mitt gloves that just has neoprene on the palm side of the gloves so when I handle fish my hands don't get wet. With the neoprene just on one side of the glove it allows any perspiration to evaporate. If I ever have to put my hands in the water I first take my gloves off and quickly dry them afterwards.

I only use the flip mitt gloves when it is really cold. You will be surprised how well those cheep jersey gloves work keeping your hands warm. Keep several pair on the boat to change if they get wet. Also inserting those chemical handwarmer packets in those jersey gloves helps a bunch. I normally put them in the gloves with the packet on the back of my hands but at times have used them on the palm side of my hand.

Something else that really helps me keep my hands warm is to always make sure my head, neck and feet are well covered and warm while on the water in cold temperatures.

You just made my mind up for me. Where can I view some gloves like you currently use?

On that page go down to the 759BK
WINDPROOF FLEECE FLIP MITT is what I have. Now they have some with Polyurethane instead of the neoprene palm. 709BK
PREMIUM FLEECE FLIP MITT which is new. I don't know the differences in polyurethane and neoprene.

Here is a picture of what I have along with the 008BK
POLYPRO LINER IN BLACK. My liners look blue to me. I've also used my regular jersey gloves with these flip mitt gloves. Those chemical handwarmer packets also fit nicely in those flipmitts.
