Ok... I do engraving on plaques for some local schools... what is the proper way to spell this out? Coaches Award or Coach's award? This has been a debate in our shop for more than 10 years!!!
To whom is the award going? To the coach? If not, then neither is correct.
To a player decided upon by a coach? Then it would be Coach's Award
To a player decided upon by more than one coach? Then it would be Coaches' Award
Ya gots to know if the thing belongs to the noun or not and ya gots to know if the noun form is plural or singular. Then you decide whats to do wif the apostrophe.
If I can suggest another topic, it would be the usage rules for the words then and than.
