Thread: weiss lake help

I will be in weiss lake area march 21-24 to visit the inlaws (west georgia ) and would love to fish weiss lake. Im looking to go with somebody I will buy the gas, beer, food, whatever. I have fished crappie tournaments for years but i dont want to drag my bass boat 600 miles. thanks

Good luck finding someone, if you don't you might just get a guide, there are plenty of them. It will cost you 275 but you'll get a limit. Try Terry Whaley he don't work out of JRs and you might be able to get him. 256 557 8555 his cell phone. and the truth be known you can probley limit in half a day, it should be a hot time..

Im considering bringing my buddies small jon boat. I was hoping to get some lessons on trolling but not at $275 Ive got my own equipment and I can fillet with the best of em I just hate to get that close to such a good lake and not fish again.

I used a guide two times to sort of learn the lake. It really helped big time. It was well worth the $$

A guide is expensive but will make a great lake, a great lake. That guide I suggested will talk all the fishing you want, he will be glad to help you for that days fishing, he will tell you where he is fishing that day. Most guides I have met just flat out love too fish, and fish on days off. My fishing partner and I met a guide on oconee, in ga. that helped us on our pushing methods and we qualified for crappie usa classic, really thanks to him. call him a couple days befour you come, he tell color and depth if you ask..

I was down last year and those guides are definately worth the money.We hired a guide out of Jr's.His name was Joe Greene.He did a fabulous job for my partner and I.He made our trip!Very knowledgable and is a pro at long line trolling.They use a different jig down on Weiss than one normally would use,they are plastic and chenile,like a fuzzy grub.Square body,though.They were made by a man that has since past away,Im sure someone else is making them again,more variety of colors than I have ever seen on a crappie jigs,and it takes some color switching to find just the correct one for the day.We found the fish suspended in the bays like Little River and Yellow Creek around 10' deep in 25' of water.

my biggest problem with a guide is im the only one going so i have nobody to share the cost.

Crappiehunter, I have to agree with the advice to hire a guide. So much so that I am going there this wknd and have hired a guide myself. I'll be taking my boat also, but have learned in the past how to shorten the learning curve. Money well spent. I work on a tight budget too, but it changes a day of"maybe" into a day of "Oh Yeah!!" crappiehuntr I can assure you that until you have fished weiss lake a few times with guides and by yourself you will be lost no matter what your skill level. I have been going for 7 years and we still get a guide from time to time. Not knocking your skills, but the money is nothing compared to the knowledge you will gain. I have fished many lakes and this one is the toughest to figure out every time you go. We will be there monday-thursday next week.

Part of the reason for not getting a guide was what has happened. I will now be there this weekend to the middle of the week.
