Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I have been getting information from this forum for a couple of years now. Planning on going to Weiss either the week of march1-8 or march 8-15. I usually fish from little river down to bay springs. I am thinking the latter week would be better due to the water temps possibly being warmer. I would prefer to slow troll jigs and twisters, but I will adapt according to the fish if necessary. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. When I get back I will gladly post a detailed report.
Castle,
I'm a newbie to Crappie.com...been looking for a while but this is my first post. Your post caught my eye cause I'm headed down to Weiss for the Mar 15th weekend hangin' out in the Yellow creek area.
It's been quite a few years since I've been to Weiss cuz I got my priorities all screwed up and concentrated more on working than fishin'. I'm looking forward to harassing some slabs if these guys on this Alabama board leave any swimming.
Good luck to ya.![]()
welcome

Welcome to the forums.
Long line slow Trolling is turning on well now on Weiss, Neely, and Logan Martin. Middle of March is usually great , if the wind doesn't get to bad.
50 to 63 degrees is great for trolling. While trolling this past Saturday, another angler and I, ( in 2 seperate boats ), going in different directions, both caught the same fish, hooked in mouth on both jigs. His drag was set lighter than mine, so I got the fish. With both of us cranking our reels, we lifted the poor fish out of the water between us, and we were 30 yards apart.
For a moment, we both thought we had the grand daddy of all slabs.![]()

Take a Kid fishing, keep only enough to eat, and release the rest to spawn again. Pop
Who won the fight? (who kept the fish?)
We both had such a rush on that one that I think we both were winners. We both laughed and just kept going our own way. I let the fish go ( small keeper ) , she deserved to live to bite another day.
