JR's Tournament at Weiss
Well I fished my first tournament this weekend. My partner and I had a good day if you consider a good day going out and catching some good eating fish and having a good time! However, by tournament standards we didn't do so great. We only had one "tournament fish" that weighed 1.7 lbs and we ended up with a 5 fish total weight of around 5 lbs. I walked up to the weigh-in sight and saw some of the fish other guys had in their sacks and just started laughing. We were too embarrased to weigh our fish in so we gave our fish away to a guy who is going to have a good fish fry soon!
I was amazed by the many of the stringers that were coming in. The winner had over 9 lbs I believe. On my best day, with 5 fish, I might could weigh in 7 or maybe 8 lbs. lbs. I've never had a day where I could weigh in 9 lbs. My partner and I trolled coves in the upper lake which I knew going in was a mistake but that is the style I know and feel comfortable with. To catch those tournament crappie, I'm sure they were fishing in the Coosa on deep brush piles or something.
It was fun and I'm glad I did it but that will be my last tournament for quite some time. I guess watching those other guys weigh in made me realize just how much better I need to get before I start entering tournaments. We had fun though and caught a good number of fish. Congratulations to the winners as that was one heck of a stringer. The big fish for the day was 2.5 lbs but I don't know who caught it.
