This is just a guess as I have wondered about that full pool number vs actual myself............The number was probably put in before they got slammed with all the rain up in Tennessee over the weekend that has caused them to open up 15 gates and send 146000 cfts at Gville dam. Since it is a measurement of above sea level in feet they are using ,they must have an area they are calculating rather than a small local depth height. They are working as fast as they can to lower the water back to normal pool for sure!! It has messed up a lot of gill beds down river. Before the rains in Tenn they were barely running any water thru usually between 9000cfs and 20000cfs avg. so the full pool number vs actual was not changing all that much . This makes only the second time they have had gates open since Jan first and is late for that to happen .Over all they had set a record for the length of time that the gates had been closed before they had to open them up a few days in late Jan of this year.
As of 6am this morning:4/26/2017 6 AM 595.27 567.62 145,289 .The 595.27 is above the dam and the 567.62 is the below the dam . I would think the above sea level would slowly get smaller the farther down from the dam you go.ON the other hand if the water is up 3 feet why isn't the above sea level not showing 3 ft higher?? None of this explains what you are asking does it HA! Next time I catch up with one of my TVA buds, I will try and get an explanation as they finally told me why the water runs the way it does under the bridges in the winter at times.

The reading are feet above sea level. The higher the number the higher the water level. I believe that Weiss is 594 at normal pool so when it reaches 592 the lake is down a 2 feet. If it is at 592 and rises 3 feet it would be a foot above normal pool. Guntersville has a normal full pool level but I don't know what it is. I hope this helps.

Slabprowler: what may be most useful is tapping on the menu tab in the lower right. New app looks like 3 bars. When you open this, there is a link to the operating guide that shows a graphical depiction of the water level. The above sea level number is an indicator of current level at that time. Guntersville does not vary as much as other nearby lakes. Another useful tool for us on lakes like wheeler that go up and down much more than guntersville is the discharge rate. In simple terms the higher the number the more water they are spilling through the dam (aka more current). For instance, last week wheeler was discharging about 30k cubic feet per second. This morning wheeler was discharging 140k cfs. This afternoon the current discharge rate is roughly 120k cubic feet per second.

Slabprowler: the rest of the story. This month the lakes have continued transitioning from winter pool to summer pool. The lakes have been rising. Guntersville should be close to normal summer pool now of roughly 594.5. The rains apparently added about another foot to account for the current 595-ish

Thanks for all your help . I pretty much got it on the discharge difference and the winter/summer pool but what I'm trying to figer out is that I fished a couple Saturday's ago and went through some shallows that is around 2' at summer pool 594.44 that day tva said lake level was 594.97 I just went through the same water Tuesday evening depth was almost 6' I ran the same path with gps as previous trip. But the tva site said the water level was at 594.67 . Difference of .30 So apparently the recordings isn't accurate .its very obovious if you was on the water Monday or Tuesday water was up 3-4'
so n my mind the lake level should been 597.67 ?

Slabprowler: Roger. I guess it is one measurement in one place and is best used as a guide. I do notice variances. For instance, if water is draining/flooding in Cotaco or Indian creeks it will be noticeably higher.
