Hello all, First I'll introduce myself. I've bass fished Guntersville (mainly around Scottsboro) my whole life. A few co-workers have gotten me into the crappie fishing scene, and I'm completely clueless here.
Anywho, I've worked over mudcreek pretty hard last weekend and today. Not a single crappie (although the 7lb stripe on an ultra light reel and 4lb test was fun). I have a feeling they were there, I just don't know how to put it on them.
Anywho, as late notice as this is (i just found the site) i'm meeting a friend at Waterfront in the morning. I figure we'll just jig some boat houses, but if anybody knows better let me know. I normally don't run too far with the boat. If anybody knows any hot spots or quick advice for working the jigs and tubes in the morning, I'll check back here in a little bit.
Thanks all.
since you know guntersville so well go to 79 causeway and fish over the last 2 weeks in 2 trips i have cought 143 crappie and alot of them over 2 pounds the moving there well but the drawback is at daylight they shut off so get there early really early to get a spot by 3 in the morning its pretty crowded
wellsheit, I grew up there in Stevenson. If you know where Fackler bridge is, I use to kill some huge crappie there. However over the last several years the area has filled in a lot and the fish do not get in there like they use to. You can catch them in the spring around those stumps though. Also in the Spring, the area of goosepond back up where the camping area is, you can catch them in there as well. Right now though your best bet is probably North Sauty bridge and the blown out bridge in Scottsboro. I will say I have converted several bass fisherman in that area over to crappie. Mud creek is a little harder to figure out, I have caught them there at times, but I do better a little up river. Like someone else mentioned, the crappie fishing is good right now and everyone is out. You gotta get there at 2 or 3 in the morning to claim a spot, sometimes even then you are late. How far do you run in a boat? I know a few spots in Stevenson I can maybe help you catch some fish if you would like to try it there. I use to put in at crow creek and fish from there out to the river up to the steam plant. I dont have a boat anymore, but I would be willing to help you if you want. I will try to attach a picture of some crappie me and my girlfriend caught there at the county park in Scottsboro back on Easter Sunday. Those are not all we caught, just how many was on the string at the time, we gave them to the boy holding the string up.
Man never in my life have I seen that many fish pulled off the county park dock. Thats impressive. I took my girlfriend fishing there this afternoon and she picked up some bream. Tickled her to death. The best part to her was I didn't catch a thing!
This morning we hit water front. caught some small bass and some bream on the docks. Even caught a small mouth. I stopped by and fished the 72 bridge by the blown out bridge this afternoon for just a few minutes. Nothing doing.
I've never fished anything north of the cove on the east side of the river north of mud creek. not sure what the real name is but we've always called it jones' cove. no clue why.
I sure am loving this site. Alot of good info. Thanks folks.
Yeah that was mine and her first real fishing trip, and most of my guy friends usually do not out fish me. With that being her first real crappie trip, I think she beat me. She had a crowd around her and seemed to catch them at will. She is addicted now and begs me to take her. We do not get to go much because we are both in school. I will be in Stevenson next weekend, if you want to bring your boat up and give it a try, I will see if I can help you. Shoot me a pm if you want. If I can help you any just let me know. By the way, I love to catch the gills there on bed next to that dock as well in the spring time.
I temporarily settled my craving and hitup a co-workers pond. We netted a good mess of bream and I boated 5 crappie with them. Not bad for pond fishing. Shortest was a hair under 11 and biggest was at 12.
