Default Question about a marine battery??

Yesterday when I went fishing I had taken a small v-bottom aluminum boat. I had charged the battery the night before and left it on the bow of the boat. After I launched the boat I stepped on the front to get in and my body weight along with the weight of the battery caused the boat to tip heavily on that side and as gravity would have it the battery rolled off the boat into the water. It was shallow water so I was able to retrieve the battery. I went ahead and hooked it up and it worked fine, but I'm sure it got extra water in it. Is there anything I need to do to the battery? This battery was bought around March of this year, so it is a fairly new battery. Thank you!

Batteries are sealed completely except for the covers on top. Unless the covers were knonked open during the fall it should be okay. I would put a slow charge on and check the next day. It should be okay. Bottombumper

Thank you Bottombumper! I hope it will hold a charge. It is a lesson learned either way.

I'm with Bottombumper. Unless the batt. was completely submerged for an extended period of time it should not be hurt. I think I'd pop the covers and if the batt. is full, I'd pull some of the water out down to the fill ring and recharge. Lake water is a lot like well water and thats all I use in my batteries.

you might consider a battery box that's strapped down..that will keep the battery in place AND cover the connections. That will make sure it doesn't fall over and somehow short out on the boat hull therebye melting a huge hole in the hull.
