Thread: Bridges in Guntersville

Okay my friends, I have not had the opportunity to go crappie fishing since Easter. I am hoping for a chance to go maybe Friday. I know where the feed mill bridge is and have done great there in the past. I know where honeycomb bridge is, also done well there. I have never fished the bridge on 69 there before you head up the mountain to Arab, is it any good and what is the name of that area? I keep hearing of browns creek and I think short creek, where are those areas at and are they producing fish from the bank right now. Any help would be appreciated. I have not been in so long I dotn know where to start.

Check out the post on Covenant Cove piers. You are looking for Highway 69 bridge. Or the Warrenton Field Bridge same thing. They are slaying them right now, Most are 9.5"-11". Go early and take a number, the locals already know the fishing has turned on.

plantdr, back when i had more time to fish, I always got a good spot, usually made plans ahead of time adn whatever i needed to do whether i had to stay the night or whatever, I did it and got a spot. I dont have time for all that now but will just have to find a way in lol. I have slayed the crappie for years under the bridges, I just have never fished that bridge. However it is the closest one to my location now so i thought about trying it. I use to have a problem with getting there to a spot and then have the boats to move in on top of me and cut me off.

Crappieseeker, I'm interested in doing the same. I plan on going to Guntersville Friday as well to do some crappie fishing. I posted about a month ago regarding night fishing the bridges in Guntersville and everyone was talking about the feed mill bridge. We went there with a ton of minnows and didn't catch a single crappie. I posted again and it seemed no one was interested in giving me any information about where to fish there(under, north, south of the bridge) nor how to fish it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Fishing right against the concrete peirs is the way we got em. You clamp off to the concrete or to the bridge and fish with minnows straight down. We also caught a bunch while tied with jigs too. Browns creek was the hot spot for us..... good luck and watch the locals most wont tell you theyve caught any even when they have a bucket ar basket full. Remember when you see the locals fish the same spot all week and they say they arent catching any...... dont believe em for a second.

WTucker, I have fished that bridge several times and have usually always caught fish, when they are in there and I can reach them, I can catch them. I have never fished it from a boat. I have always fished it from the bank. Usually I outfish the people in the boats if I can reach the fish. There are a few reasons for this as I will explain. I have only fished the feed mill side a couple times, I park down the road and just dont walk to the far end of the mill side of the bridge because I usually catch fish on the closest side to where I park. The reason I catch more from the bank a lot of times requires several things. The fish generally need to be in there good and with the water at a decent level. It is a long distance cast from the bank to the first main bridge column and sometimes boats just think that they are not bothering you by tying off to the column in front of you, however depending on how well my reals are casting, I can reach the column and catch a few fish that are undesturbed around it. Also usually the boats just fish right next to the column, some of the fish hold back in closer at the drop off and I pick up some there at times. Then just right out from the bank where the water drops off the rock ledge, they run along there and I catch some. Then sometimes a few hold on the up close wooden columns of the railroad bridge and I pull some off of there. the current plays a major factor and the angles of your cast do as well. Sometimes the slightest little thing can make a huge difference. I have even got up on the railroad bridge in the past and cast underneath the main bridge parallel to the column and caught a lot that way. You just have to be very careful doing that. I fish jigs 99% of the time. Most of the time, if the fish are there jigs are the key, not always, but most of the time. I have my most luck with Bass or Panfish assassins, then the Bobby Garland jigs that look like the assassins, and then sometimes Fin S shad. I have not fished the bridge any this year and only fished it 2 times last year, did well last year so I dont know the patern yet this year since I have not been, but if fish are there I think I can pull some. WTucker, I am sure after all this rain and with the weather changing, tomorrow will be a challenging day. I would say the water is probably very muddy. I really dont know what to tell you. I still have not decided since I have not seen the water, whether or not I want to brave the trip. I am sure they will have the dam wide open pulling the water. Water running is a good thing, but if its running hard, it can be counter productive. I wish I could help you out. The best thing I can tell you is to fish the bridges. Use bass assassins or fin s shads or bobby garland jigs on 1/16th oz. How do you like that Lowe boat? I almost bought one a few years back but decided not too.
