I finally caught some crappie on jigs Sunday. Ran out of minnow catching small bass and a few crappie in 20 foot of water 8-10 foot deep and figured I would give a jig a try. I caught about 20 crappie on two different colored jigs. For the most part they were smaller than I was catching with minnows but I managed to clean 21 slabs with 6 over 1.5 lbs and two right at 2 lbs, the majority about 12 inches. I was using a purple hair type 1/16 and a chartruese head 1/32 with black body and green tentacles. I caught them in 16 foot of water at about 14 foot or so just around a tree top. Some were a little shallower and I caught them as the jig was dropping. Jig fishing is fun after all...
Good, I'm glad to here someone caught them somewhere. I fished a short time on Sunday morning in G'ville. The boat house fish did not bite for the first hour and a half so I move to the 431 bridge and my trolling motor broke and it was very windy. I came off of it a drift fished for 30 min or so and we only caught two yellow stripe. Loaded boat and came home. The in line 40 amp fuse was fried and it melted the fuse holder. Ive never had that happen and need to find a new fuse holder. Good report and keep up the good luck.
I hear all the stories of people catching tons of fish on jigs and never seem to catch anything myself unless it has a minnow on it. I went to Acadamy and bought a bunch of jigs last night and the week of the 19th through the 23rd I am going to fish every day of my vacation.
Sounds like a fishcation, Im glad to here you done good with some jigs.
Im with you, the only way I can seem to catchem is tippin with a shinner.
Have you heard anything about the water level ?? Yearly maintenance level??? Will Logan drop five feet to winter level or three feet ?????
nice catch...
Rumor control has it not dropping this year. I am not sure if that makes me happy or sad. Kinda sad the big cats wont school up in the deep creek channel but kinda happy the crappie will probably favor my honey holes till they go out into the main channel for the winter when it gets real cold. We can only wait and see how much they drop it.
