I had a little time this afternoon and decided to hit Blue Heron Lake since I struck out at Catoma the other day. I didn't have much luck today, but I did manage one crappie, one bream, and one bass. I kept the crappie and bream and threw the bass back. The bream and bass were caught off of bumble bee looking jig from laser jigs and the crappie was caught off a bass assassin Blue/grey color
I went back to Blue Heron and found some more crappie. I had school this a.m., but managed to get on the water by 2 p.m. Fished until 5 with 8 crappie and 3 bream caught off of bass assassin with 1/16 oz. head. All hits came on the drop. Had one crappie over 12 inches everything else around 10.
Just got through restocking the freezer with 30 more crappie fillets. I went to Blue Heron this afternoon and kept 15 crappie. I took pics of the biggest ones and will post them on alabamafishingbuddy.ning.com Look for Richard Wright "Thats Me!" Largest crappie was pushing 14 inches. I had several around 12 inches and the rest were 10. All fish were caught in 14-18 foot of water around clusters of bait fish. I would just put the trolling motor on one to pick the jig up and then kill the trolling motor and let the jig come back to the boat. Most hits came when I killed the trolling motor and the jig started to fall. I had to switch polls earlier I was using an ultra light with 6 lb. test, but couldn't feel the bite very well. I switched over to a 10' long crappie poll that has the backbone of a wet noodle. Super sensitive though, and quickly started getting hook-ups instead of misses. All fish were caught on panfish assassin with chart. head 1/16oz
hwy 157 toward Terri Pines country club. The lake is public, but the land is private. (have to fish it from a boat) Go past the golf course and look for a subdivision called Waterford on the left. The lake is directly behind the subdivision. The only place to put in a boat is a pumping station on the right side of the lake. There is a small bridge that runs across the lake I caught some there, but most around the dam. There is a creek that runs through the lake. It hugs the pumping station side. I caught several in that creek channel or just off of it. I've been taking a small v-bottom boat that has a depth finder on it and marking most fish around the creek channel.
With this beautiful weather I decided to go fishing instead of sitting in a tree all day. Good choice cause I ended up with some nice crappie and four bream. Same method as before, but I used a different jig today. Color was Pink head with black body and chart marabou skirt. Marked several fish around clusters of bait fish.
Planning on going back this afternoon. I don't want to waste such a nice day inside. I may try some live bait this trip. There is a small store that I know sells minnows so I may try something different. I'll post the results.
