I have an 88, 150 mariner that I had the oiler disconnected on, and this is my only experience with an oiling system. I was told that a lot of the motors in the earlier years had plastic and/or nylon parts that became brittle over time. When they went out, it was with no warning and by the time any warnings came on the motor was toast. I don't mind the mix being of the old school anyway.
