Fire Prevention Week is coming up soon and I usually teach Fire Prevention to our Pre K thru 5th Grades here at Paducah School. This year I was wanting to go farther and offer Smoke Detectors to people here in town who do not have them. Myself as well as several other Firemen will put them up in the peoples home as well as instruct them on proper times to change the batteries. What I was wondering is are any of you Business Owners willing to donate Smoke Detectors to the Paducah Volunteer Fire Dept. or does anyone know of any Grants that may be out there to get these. For those of you that dont know the reason why you need a Smoke Detector is when you go to sleep, sound is the only sense that you still have. Your sense of smell also goes to sleep. So therefore when your house catches fire and you dont have a smoke detector, the carbon monoxide builds up and you go into a deeper sleep and thus die. That is what kills more people in house fires.
