Depends. When I lived in Buras we frequently found rips loaded with both of them 4 to 6 miles out of Tiger Pass in West Delta. Generally never had to go more than 10. Fly Fishing for them was great - ask Boatstall!
I don't know about over here (Fishing out of Morgan City and Burns Point). That was our first targeted trip, and I figured conditions would be just right for it. Couldn't believe that at 30 miles SSW of the mouth of the Atchafalaya we had not yet found anything fishable! Oh well...
I know they got 'em to the east, and I have seen 'em to the west, so they got to have 'em around here, too. Maybe they had gotten seasick from those heaving swells and weren't hungry. Whatever, we'll try it again - beats the hell out of not catching sac-a-lait!
