My Dad used to lease in the Wichita Mountains. The ODWC would allow an elk season usually every third year, dependent upon populations. It was a good time, and sitting on a boulder at sun up feels like you're in a different time and place than modern Southwest Oklahoma. But the only thing that kind of blew about elk hunting was skidding huge quarters down a rugged "mountain," (they're really more like glorified rock piles) over boulders and through plum thickets. But hey, it was damn worth it.
