Default Jeffrey Energy Center

Earlier this Spring, somebody had written about their trip to Jeffrey Energy Center. (Maybe ChadKU?, I can't remember) Anyway, I went there today and had a fantastic time. I thought I would let you all know in case you are interested in checking it out for the first time or going back.

I fished at the largest, South lake. At first, I thought I must be in the wrong place because I was the only boat on the lake until 5:00 PM. I haven't had a lake all to myself since late March!!!

First of all, I didn't catch any crappie. I tried in a couple of likely-looking spots and didn't get a nibble so I gave up on that action pretty quick. If there are good numbers of crappie in there, then they must be hidden pretty well because I didn't mark hardly any on the sonar and I didn't catch any by accident which is rare for me.

I did catch and release a pile of nice smallmouth bass, the biggest was over 3 pounds. I didn't realize there were so many smallmouth in there, but I caught more smallies than anything else, and I found them all around the lake.

My first walleye was 20", and came off the first point I fished. I started thinking that this might be my new favorite place with big smallies and wallys, but that was my only keeper. I caught 8 to 10 more, but none were over 18".

The action was pretty steady once I got the pattern figured out. I was a little slow out of the gate getting started catching walleyes, but I think there are probably decent numbers of fish in there to be caught if somebody knew what they were doing... The smallmouth and walleyes were hanging out on the same points, so I honestly had no idea what I was setting the hook on until the smallies started ripping drag!!! What a fun day! Sorry it wasn't a crappie fishing story for crappie.com, but I thought you all might like to know about the lake.

Anyway, I would be glad to give anybody the what/where/how of what I did as long as you promise to clue me in if you figure something out too.

Good fishing y'all!!!
