Metallic thread does not photograph well but this is the progress so far. Hind sight being 20/20 I should have spaced the diamonds at 1 5/8" instead of 2.0". Would make made it a lot easier because of the narrowness of the blank diameter. A bit more grey thread and I will have this part done.

It was a fairly productive day. I finished painting 100 spoons. They are curing now, the vinyl paint has some epoxy properties so they have to cure a while. I also finished the decorative wrap on the custom rod for a friend of mine and am currently gluing the fore grip on. I generally don't finish a decorative wrap in a single day but they have been waiting a while on the rod. I still have to place the guides and then put epoxy on the guide thread and the decorative wrap. It had been a while since I wove a name into the decorative wrap but it does leave a nice customization to a rod. I had to take pain pills so I am struggling to stay awake. I have to stay conscious until the glue dries. It's been a long time since I have accomplished so much in a single day so I'm feeling pretty good about it. I even managed a couple of hours or writing early this morning. It would be difficult to describe my life as any other than blessed.
Thanks Snagged again thanked you for this post

An important part of building a custom rod is knowing the users fishing habits. The user of this rod fishes from a boat that sits nearer to the surface than most. How does that knowledge help you might ask. If I used a bright or metallic thread on the guides the fish would see the flash from the bright thread and that would spook them in the clear water conditions where this rod would be used. To solve that issue I opted to use a black underlay for the guides and black thread to hold the guides on. This solves the flash problem that would be seen by the fish. Under normal circumstances the thread used on the guides would match the thread on the decorative wrap but fishing conditions necessitated a deviation from protocal. The rod is on the drying rack now and will be done by morning.

It is a very tedious hobby but the results are worth the effort.

You can can zoom in on the weave for a better look. The rod owner wanted a 14" rear grip which only allowed enough space for a name weave without a decorative wrap.
