Since I can remember, I have loved crappie fishing. Going crappie fishing with my Mom and Dad, or my Grandfather are some of the best memories I have as a young child. I will never forget when I was around 5. My Brother and I were on the bank crappie fishing with Papa. Papa leaned down by the water to get some fresh water in the minnow bucket and I accidently bumped him. Needless to say, there goes Papa into the water. Me and my brother grabbed Papa's hands and thought we were going to pull him out and keep him from drowning, even though he was only in waist deep water. When he got out, my Dad had to cast an unbaited hook and catch his hat, which was floating away. Every time me and my Brother went fishing with Papa, one of us got to sit in his lap and drive back to the camp trailer. That day was my day to drive. I missed out on that one because Papa said he was too wet lol. As I got older and got married, I wanted to pass on to my Children some of the memories that I shared with my Parents and Grandparents.
Since my Children were able to walk, they had a fishing pole in their hands. Sometimes they even fell asleep with it. To me there is no better time than taking the Wife and the Kiddos fishing. Its a time when you can just get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life and enjoy each other. You can laugh with each other, and enjoy one anothers company. A lot of the times the Kiddos are laughing at old Dad because they caught the biggest or the most fish. What they dont know is, that is the best times for me because that is something I know they will always remember. Sometimes the Wife cant go but me and the Kids enjoy our alone time as well. The sad part is that my Oldest Daughter has grown up and for the longest she didnt like to go fishing anymore. The best part now is when she called me the other day and said she would love to go fishing with me. She was remembering the times we went fishing together. It really doesnt matter if your catching big ones Or little ones Or just standing around not catching anything at all Crappie fishing is something that is very relaxing And remember, the thing that goes best with Crappie Fishing is the spending time with family Evan as we get older, a little more fishing time with the ones who taught us is also the most enjoyable Being able to spend just a little more time with the ones you love while sitting there waiting on the cork to go under Is the perfect ending to any day Gordon Melton AKA: Father of 4 Grandpas Fishin Life Lesson Many years ago Grandpa would take me fishing a good bit On the banks next to him is where I would sit I asked my Grandpa how he got to be so wise and so old This is the story that I was told Life is like fishin, you've got to use bait If you don't get what you want right then, you have to wait You try many baits until you find what's right Then you hang on with all your might Because life will fight you like a big fish may do But if your drags set right, It will eventually come to you So don't rush thru life and try to reel it in so fast For your line will break and your dreams will be in the past Like line on a reel, your plans may get frayed Just get new line and better bait and you will have it made My boy lets not worry about this anyway For your Grandpa just loves to be fishing with you today Trust in your heart, and learn what you can each day & year Because in life's long journey, that's the best fishin gear.
