I'll call it the Rush 2112 tour! So I rushed through a 2112 mile tour of the South and ended it at Rose Trail General Store, Bait Shop and RV Park. It's located at Bear Creek on Pickwick Lake. It is essentially the best kept secret in all of Alabama. It's a great place with some fantastic fishing. Yes, Jacklyn, the word is out! Your little secret is over, everyone is going to learn about this little hide away.
Jacklyn runs the whole operation with a little help from her friends. They fed me some awesome steak, put me up in their mobile home (thanks Jacklyn), and Keith Dodd took me to some great little honey holes on the lake. And we even had a good old fashioned campfire at the end of my stay. A fantastic way to end my 3 week fishing expedition through some of the "all too hospitable" South. Believe me when I say "I'll be back".

Some of the year’s best crappie fishing cranks up soon after the ice goes away.
Excellent crappie fishing opportunities are already in place by the time the ice disappears from many northern lakes, according to Minnesota guide Bob Bohland. “Before ice out, the crappies begin moving to shallow green weeds for a couple of reasons,” he explained.
First, they are staging to spawn. Also related to the spawn, the crappie feed heartily during early spring, hoarding calories prior going through spawning rigors. Green weed flats in the shallow water and in middle depths come alive with nymph-stage aquatic insects early in the spring, and the nymphs attract minnows and young-of-the-year bluegills and perch, which provide a feast for the crappie.
Bohland guides primarily on waters around the Twin Cities and in the St. Cloud area; however, he’ll travel far and wide when he hears about a hot crappie bite. Early spring produces excellent action and some seriously big fish, so he spends as many days as possible out on the water. His absolute favorite days are sunny and calm. The sun adds a little bit of warmth to the weed flats and makes the fish more active.

After the Crappie Masters tournament in Millbrook Alabama, I headed East to Lake Blackshear in Georgia for a Crappie.com gathering. It was only a 3 hour drive or so, and a pleasant drive at that, going through many small towns, and some big Pecan Orchards.
The campground was right on the lake, a real nice quaint place, with lots of wildlife. Here's a Fox that came through looking for exactly I don't know what. I'm sure his campsite was around there somewhere, but please do stay out of mine! lol

Guntersville photos taken with Ed Moes
Well it has taken me a few days to thaw out and recover from the tremendously bad weather Slab amd I experienced this week while fishing at Guntersville. I detailed a lot of the facts on the thread Fished Guntersville Lake with Slab today but I promised you photos so here they are. Rev. Tim Jennings (Style) , Rev. Michael Carter (Shipahoy 41) and Mr. Ed Moes (Slab) prepare for a fun day of crappie fishing. My wife Loretta stayed at Hampton Inn and caught up with her reading.
Our shirts wre given to us by Bob Hinkle (Snake River) They were extremely comfortable. After we took this photo we had to hurry up and put on our jackets because of the cold, rain and super higher winds. That same system is producing excessive snow right now in Cleveland Ohio and will hit Vermont and New York soon.

So I've finally got around to writing part two of the Crappie Masters story I started last week (part 1 here). You would think that since I was camping all week long I would have had time to write it. But those, all too hospitable, Georgians at Lake Blackshear kept me busy either eating, fishing or listening to stories, and that's a story for another time. Hopefully I'll get to that one sooner rather than later.
Saturday at the Crappie Masters was so cool. They have a Kids Fishing Rodeo, and they give away prizes to the the kids that catch the most fish, for various age groups. It's free and they give away all sorts of cool Bass Pro Shop stuff. The winners receive prizes, and additionally, every child gets a grab bag of fishing related goodies.
