Missouri Crappie Camp
Written by ed moes

Tom (Tomtom) and I left Grenada Mississippi to go to a Crappie.com event at Truman Lake Missouri.  We left first thing in the morning (after taking down the tent and all) and the plan was to arrive at Truman around 5pm.  The trip was supposed to take 8 hours or so according to my Garmin.  Well, with all the flooding taking place, we ended up taking a 2.5 hour detour in Arkansas, and there was another small detour in Southern Missouri.  The flooding was unreal.  This picture does not do it justice.  There were places where left of the road was flooded, and water pressure pushing through the culverts created white water rapids 50 yards from the right side of the road.   Now that's a lot of pressure.  I was nervous just driving on the road.  Farmhouses, and farms were completely flooded as far as the eye could see.  We felt so bad for them.

A Billbob Tradition.
Written by ed moes

As I ventured out on my trips this Spring I was able to witness the billbob tradition in person, and actually document some of it.  You see, at every crappie.com camp that billbob attends, he gets his picture taken with all the pretty women.  The Mississippi Fruit Jar event a couple weeks ago, and Missouri Crappie Camp event were no exception.  I attended both and was able to follow billbob around to capture this ongoing tradition first hand.

Now before I show you the pictures I want you to know it's an innocent enough tradition.  At the Kentucky event at Big Bear  last fall even my mother and 21 year old daughter got their pictures taken with billbob.  I did not get those pictures, and if anyone has them, they are welcome to send them to me and I'll add them to this compilation.  But here's the article of the Big Bear event as evidence that my mom and daughter were actually there along with billbob.

Welcome to the largest family fishing tournament in the USA. The Mr.Crappie Big Crappie Classic allows families to compete in a tournament atmosphere and enjoy the sport of fishing together. My goal is to give kids an opportunity how to enjoy our natural resources and the great outdoors, because our children are our future and the future belongs to our kids.

The Mr.Crappie Big Crappie Classic is a big fish tournament that awards cash and great prizes every hour on the hour. Mississippi Fruit Jar Trip
Written by ed moes

I had only been home for two weeks when I started my second crappie.com fishing trip for 2011.  The first trip was a 3 week tour through Alabama and Georgia, crappie fishing with some of the nicest folk ever. This trip would be a little different. This time I took my boat, and my best friend Tom.  I would no longer rely on the generosity of others to get on the water.  I'd have my own boat, and I'd have to figure how to catch Crappie using my own gear and my own techniques.  Should be interesting.

So we packed up and drove down to Grenada Lake in Mississippi. The MS Crappie.com Forum was having a Fruit Jar Tournament down there and although we did not intend to participate in the tournament, we wanted to go down and meet everyone at the Weigh-in and subsequent Fish Fry.  We thought about entering in the tournament, but we knew we could not hold a candle to those that have fished that lake before.   Especially since I had not really fished out of this "new to me" Tracker boat that I had just purchased in the Fall.

WNC Social Pics of the day
Written by Stratosguy

The weather was great the fishing not so much. After a cold front from last night the fish just seemed to tighten up and not bite very well at all. It's amazing what a little rain and one cold night can do the fish. I think for the most part we all enjoyed the day and fellowship with other fisherman! The fish fry had to be canceled due to the low numbers of fish brought in. It was a pleasure to meet everyone and hope to do it again. We had a tie for the big fish and a drawing for goods donated by Slab (crappie dot com owner) as well as from Advance Auto.

Hopefully we will be better prepared for the next one and will get more  organized. I am also happy my little idea worked out fairly well considering I have never done anything like this before!

Although we didn't get to cook I want to thank all the members who took the time to volunteer to bring items and help with the event! You guys know who you are and my apologies that we didn't get to fulfill all the plans for the day!  Thank you all for coming and thank you Slab and Advance Auto!!
